How AI will change the IT industry

Have you heard anything about ChatGPT or AI?

I’m sure you did. Everybody talks about it 🤯.

And a lot of people panicking and saying that AI will replace programmers very soon.

For me, it’s just funny to hear it from people who don’t even work in the industry, so I’ve prepared a top 3 reasons why AI WILL NOT replace programmers in the nearest future:

  1. 🦻Being a programmer is not just about writing code, it’s about problem-solving. AI is good in manual, simple and repetitive tasks, but it’s not creative, it’s not able to see the bigger picture and collaborate to solve complex problems.
  2. ➡️ AI uses publicly available data to learn. But 99% of projects are private and have their own style and infrastructure. So you can’t simply paste the code from ChatGPT into the project. You have to refactor it to adjust it to companies standards. And you can’t do it without good coding knowledge.
  3. 👶 It’s not independent and can’t create stuff from scratch. It still makes a lot of mistakes and there should be someone to verify the code produced by AI and fix it. Moreover, it’s able only to create small pieces of code, but real projects have hundreds of thousands of lines of code.

There are many other reasons why AI isn’t replacing programmers soon, but I can’t fit them all into one email, so just check out a small meme 😅 that I’ve shared recently with my students:

AI WILL REPLACE PROGRAMMERS THEY SAY 😅

❓WILL AI CHANGE THE IT INDUSTRY???

Alright, we covered that AI isn't replacing programmers, but is it changing the industry at all?

And the answer is yes and no.

No, because it's been almost a YEAR since ChatGPT got released (time goes so fast, insane 🤯). And the industry hasn't dramatically changed, millions of devs weren't replaced by robots 🤖 xD.

Yes, because such an industry as IT ALWAYS CHANGES regardless of AI or any other new technological discoveries.

The IT industry in 2023 is completely different from the IT industry in 2003.

And in 2043 it will be completely different as well. It's just how everything works.

But as you can see it changes over years, even decades, not days or months.

It means, that you have PLENTY OF TIME to adapt and learn something new.

If you aren't ready to learn new things from time to time and learn new tech updates every 3-5 years, you won't be able to build a successful career anywhere.

As all industries evolve, and if you want to stay on top, you have to sharpen your knowledge!

📄 Framework for YOU

So, as you have to stay up to date with the newest tech trends, it's absolutely worth spending the next couple of weekends learning more about AI and ChatGPT.

  1. Weekends 1-2: Cover FREE Generative AI Course From Google.
  2. Weekends 3-4: Create a simple project with the usage of ChatGPT API.
  3. Use GitGub Copilot for AI code auto-completion.
  4. Use ChatGPT instead of Google sometimes to learn how to get the best possible responses.

That's how just in 1 MONTH you can get pretty confident with AI tools and proudly add them to your CV and portfolio 💼!

I would like to end our today's email with the following words:

Remember, no matter what industry you are working in, if you are really good at what you do, AI will struggle to replace you quickly, and you will have A LOT OF TIME to adjust.
