Traveling Changes Developers' Lives

Why traveling enhances developers' lives, fostering growth and new perspectives?

Traveling Changes Developers' Lives

Travelling has helped me grow my career and character, and it can also help you.

Today I want to talk about travelling and how it helped to grow my career, I've divided it into 3 short chapters and each of them will show how I've used travelling for my personal growth or break the travelling myth.

🚀 Travelling as Motivation

I was working on 2 dev jobs, running an Instagram Blog and studying at the same time for around 1.5 years.

I was sleeping less than 7 hours a day and had my TODO list f**cking filled with tasks.

But I didn't burn out because of travelling.

I had never been outside Europe at that time, but I wanted to see Asia (specifically Thailand 🇹🇭) A LOT.

And that trip was my motivation to make some money, to be able to go there.

That goal was fueling me for a long time!

And when I finally achieved it, it was INSANE!

I've discovered completely different cultures, and tones of unbelievable places:

I felt so proud of myself, fully recharged and ready to CRUSH NEW GOALS.

(Btw. I started my first online business on that trip).

I had the same feeling after my recent trip to Dubai. It motivated me to achieve more.

And once again I had the same feeling after my recent trip to Paris where I saw insanely luxurious hotels, beautiful places, and rich people.

Such an atmosphere always motivates!

Travelling brings you lovely emotions and forces your brain to WANT MORE OF IT.

To travel more -> you need to make more -> to make more you need to work harder and smarter.

This is the best motivation!

💸 Travelling is Expensive

And it is FALSE ❌!

I've had both $100 short trips and $20,000+ long trips.

And in both cases, I've got a lot of motivation and positive emotions out of them.

Travelling CAN BE expensive, but it DOES NOT have to.

Actually travelling cheap is a must-have thing, as it would motivate you to make more to travel better.

When I was a poor student, I had a $100 trip to Copenhagen.

I've walked 35km in one day,

was going to the airport through the highway by foot at 3 AM

and slept at the airport.

But still truly enjoyed it:

The funny thing, this cake price is around $20, so 1/5 of my trip budget was spent on it, but it was totally worth it 😅!

🗣 Travelling Helps With Communication

Just having good technical knowledge isn't enough anymore.

You have to be a good communicator if you want to easily land great jobs.

And if you are struggling with communication, just start travelling!

It will help you to realise how HUGE the world is, how many different people are there, and how nobody cares about you.

You might be scared to talk to a stranger, but when you realise that both of you will forget this conversation in 5 minutes, you will care less, and talk more.

Moreover, communication will help you to create a character and build your bank of stories, and it will make you a more interesting person overall.

For example, during my travel to Thailand, I went to the tea room and met with a Chinese seller of fingerprint door looks on AliExpress, who makes $$$ of dollars doing that and he taught me how to properly drink tea.

Sounds unbelievable?? Feels even better!

👍 Recommendation from Zacker

No matter how much you make consider to start travelling at least 2 times a year.

It can be just a $100 one-day trip to the neighbouring city or something bigger.

Consider travelling to UNUSUAL places. It will be cheaper, and more exciting as you

will actually see how people live, and not just walk around structures that were created to suck tourists' money.

With travelling your life will start changing in ways you can't imagine!
