Why nobody is doing that in programming?

Obvious things that nobody does in programming

Why nobody is doing that in programming?

I've been in the business world for almost 2 years.

I've watched thousands of videos, completed dozens of courses, and read a lot of books about business.

I've seen many different approaches business coaches recommend people to use.

But there are 3 THINGS that EVERYONE recommends regardless.

And I believe that these '3 THINGS' will also work super well in a programming world.

I will share insights that I learned from the business world that will help you to succeed in programming!

Taking Responsibility

The cool thing about business is that you 100% own it, it's your thing.

But it also means that you are 100% responsible for all problems, difficulties and failures.

So most business owners understand, that it's their fault if something isn't working and that they have to figure out how to make it work.

And they will eventually figure it out if they keep working hard.

But in programming, for some reason (that I don't personally understand), people used to blame others for their failures.

Oh, I can't get a job because the market is saturated!

or

Oh, AI will replace programmers so I don't have any chances.

When those exact people aren't putting ANY effort into improving their skills, portfolio and not exiting their comfort zone.

Transferring responsibilities for your failures, won't help you and won't improve your situation

The opposite!

If you will say:

Okay, I can't get a job. It means I'm not good enough, so I will keep improving myself until I succeed!

I guarantee you, that you will succeed!

Because this is the mindset needed for success!

Building Connections

In the business world, your connections are everything.

Sometimes you are just one good connection away from becoming a co-owner in a multi-million dollar business.

Knowing the right people unlocks the path to quick unlimited growth.

SAME THING IN PROGRAMMING!

When I need to hire a developer, the first thing I do -> I reach out to my students, connections, and friends.

Because I trust those people and I know that they won't recommend me someone bad.

Only if I can't find anyone around my connections I go and post a job offer on the job board.

So the best job openings are closing, before you even see them.

And by having just a couple of good connections you can start easily getting great jobs.

You gonna ask me:

Andrew, but how can I build good connections?

It's a topic for a whole other article, but I have 2 tips that I can give you now:

  1. Attend meetups, events, and conferences.
That's where you'll find a lot of people from the industry.
  2. Give value to those people. Try to identify what they need and how you can help them.

Maybe you can create a website for them, or help with the presentation. Do it for free WITHOUT even asking them. And then just give them what you did.

    Don't expect anything in return.

Do this for a couple of months, and you'll be shocked at how hard some people will try to pay you off.

And by having just a couple of good connections, with time you'll be able to reach out to them and ask for reference or some help with the job. If they gonna have a good position for you, you'll likely get it!

It will work!

The most common thing every business coach repeats is:

Don't give up!

I'm so tired of hearing this because everybody is saying it.

But I now can see myself that this is actually a solid advice.

One of the most common reasons people fail in programming is because they just give up.

They stop learning, practising, applying for jobs and improving.

Although some of them were just a couple of months of hard work away from a successful IT career.

So if you are tired and feel like giving up. Do whatever you want:

  • Take a rest
  • Read motivational book
  • Write down a plan
  • etc

BUT DON'T GIVE UP.

Because if you don't, you will figure it out.

You'll find a way to make it work.

As programming industry is so wide, and brings so many opportunities.

And one of those opportunities is a good fit for you!

Conclusion

If you open your eyes wide enough, sometimes you'll be able to see good insights from other industries, that you can apply to your programming career.

99.9% of people aren't doing most of the things that I shared today.

So if you gonna start quitting your comfort zone, and applying non-standard approaches, your success will arrive sooner than you expect.
